Vallauris is also known for its ceramic artwork. Following a crisis it was rescued almost overnight by the artist Pablo Picasso. Thanks to a collaboration with the potters, Picasso and other artists were given a new way of presenting their work, while the potters were able to safeguard their own craft.
Art lovers can see a Picasso bronze entitled 'Man with sheep' in the main square or the painting on the subject of 'War and peace' in the entrance hall of the chapel. Today, the former chapel of the monks of Lérins is open to the public and houses the Musée National Pablo Picasso (mid- June to mid-Sept.
