The Ligurian mountain village of Bajardo is located high up in the mountains of San Remo, and the Casetta della Nozze holiday cottage is found in a small romantic alley in the historical centre of town, which is easily accessible on foot. It offers ample space for two people and has a living room with satellite TV and comfortable sitting-room area in the basement, a conveniently furnished kitchen and bathroom with a shower on the ground floor, as well as a beautiful bedroom on the first floor. The terrace is only a few meters away from the house and mesmerizes you with a stunning view over the Ligurian Mountains. Despite the distance away from the sea, you will lack nothing in Bajardo, for there are two fine grocery stores and several excellent restaurants in town, which will be happy to provide you with the delicious traditional Ligurian cuisine. There are many theatrical and classical concerts held at the festival grounds during the summer months. A tennis court and a Boccia-track will tempt you to try the local sporting activities, while the spa lake, just a few kilometers away, can be reached easily either by car or, more enjoyably, on foot. Furthermore, there are many interesting paths and lanes leading to France and Piemont. The area around Bajardo is also an irresistible magnet for mountain-bike enthusiasts.

Italo Calvino liked to stay in this town in the upper Val Nervia, which is not far from the Melogno Pass, a meeting-point of ancient mule tracks. When you see the town rising out of the mist which sometimes envelops the valley, it is like a scene from a story book: situated on the top of a rock, Baiardo possesses all the charm of a legend. For instance, you should see the propitiatory Pentecost dance during the traditional Festival of the Boat: the people sing an ancient ballad telling the tragic story of the daughter of the Count of Baiardo, who was condemned to death for trying to elope with her lover. Or you might go up to the "old church", which was destroyed in the earthquake of 1887, when a quarter of the local inhabitants lost their lives.

Before becoming part of the feudal estate of the barons of Ventimiglia (and passing under Genoese dominion in 1259), Baiardo was a Roman "castrum". The "Portaro del piano" was the entrance gate to the mediaeval town, whose form can still be gleaned from the layout of the buildings, despite the earthquake and subsequent reconstruction. The symbol of the town's rebirth was the new parish church of San Nicolň, consecrated in 1893, which holds a triptych by Francesco da Verzate dated 1465; another triptych by Emanuele Macario dating from 1552 is held in the Oratory of San Salvatore, which is undergoing restoration. In the Palazzo Comunale you can admire a fourteenth-century wooden crucifix, while the civic art gallery contains works by contemporary artists, including a native son of Baiardo, Antonio Rubino.

It is not difficult to climb up from the 900 metres altitude of the town to the 1300 metres of Monte Bignone and the 1400 metres of Monte Ceppo. However, if you decide to follow the Val Bonda valley you will eventually reach Castelvittorio, passing through the municipal district of Berzi, where you can visit the large Baroque complex of the Sanctuary of Santa Maria Assunta. Gastronomic specialities include "Ciousoun", a pie made with wild herbs, and "Crustolo", a puff-pastry containing candied fruit.

The Casetta Della Nozze lies at the centre of town, and the last 300 m are only accessible on foot. A narrow spiral staircase connects the floors with each other.
The terrace is found approx. 3 m away from the house.

eigenen Sonnenschirm für die Terasse Apricale Wir waren insgesamt sehr zufrieden. Die Wohnung war in sauberem Zustand und so wie wir uns das vorgestellt hatten. Vielen Dank und viele Grüße!

De omgeving is super; de oude kerkruine boven op de berg, de talloze steegjes en het uitzicht over de bergen geeft Bajardo iets authentieks. Het is er relatief rustig, weinig toerisme, maar de bewoners van Bajardo zijn erg vriendelijk, behulpzaam en gastvrij en met het openbaar vervoer zijn de kust en de omliggende plaatsen relatief eenvoudig te bereiken. In augustus zijn er verschillende festiviteiten in en rond de ruine en het dorp; van theater en opera, tot dance feest incl. dj. Een echte aanrader wat ons betreft is Osteria Ra Culeta in Bajardo; je kan er heerlijk lunchen of gezellig een drankje doen; het eten en de bediening is echt super!! Het is wellicht handig het adres of telefoonnummer door te geven van de beheerder van het huisje. Mocht je elkaar mislopen met de sleuteloverdracht dan kun je contact met hem/haar opnemen.

Auf jeden Fall das Restaurant Jolanda mit Massimo und seiner 80zigjährigen Mutter, die immer noch die Nudeln un Gnocchis selber macht. Es ist ein wunderschöner kleiner Ort mit einer atemberaubenden Aussicht. Es lohnt sich einfach los zu laufen und gute Schuhe mitzunehmen. Die Landschaft will entdeckt werden.
